All In One Diaper
All In One diapers (AIOs) are waterproof diapers which go on your baby in one piece just like a disposable diaper. Common closures are velcro or Aplix, or snaps. The absorbency of AlOs can be increased by adding a doubler, but these are not typically suitable for nighttime cloth diapering.
All In Two Diaper
All In Two diapers (AI2s or AITs) are diapers which consist of an outer waterproof shell and snap in soakers. The concept of AI2s is that you will purchase multiple snap in soakers and swap them out when changing an unsoiled outer shell. These diapers can be cost effective without compromising convenience, and also reduce the amount of laundry on wash day.
One Size Diaper
One size diapers (OS) are diapers which are meant to carry babies from birth through potty learning. These typically range from 6 or 8 lbs up to 35 or 40lbs depending on the brand. Most One size diapers adjust with snaps that allow you to increase or decrease the rise of the diaper.
Pocket Diaper
Pocket diapers are waterproof cloth diapers that have an opening in the front or back where you can stuff absorbent inserts. Once stuffed, these diapres go on in one step just like disposables. They may have snaps, velcro or Aplix, or S-Hook closures. The absorbency is customizable making pocket diapers a versatile diaper and great choice for bedtime.
Pocket All In One or Hybrid All In One Diapers
Pocket AIOs or Hybrid AIO are AlOs with the option to add absorbency to a pocket opening when necessary. They allow you to have the convenience of an AIO with the customized absorbency you get with pocket diapers.
Fitted Diaper
Fitted Diapers go on just like other diapers, but are not waterproof. Some may choose to go coverless at home for breathability, but in order to be waterpoof these diapers must be paired with a cover or wrap.
Diaper Cover/Diaper Wrap
Diaper Covers or Wraps are waterproof and used with fitted, prefolds and flats. They are typically have snaps, velcro or Aplix, or pull on. Covers may be made of PUL, wool or fleece.
Cloth Diaper Accessories Defined
Pail Liner or Diaper Pail
Pail liners or diaper pails are used to store soiled diapers prior to washing. Some can hang on doorknobs, or you can just a kitchen trash pail and place the liner in the pail just as you would a trash bag.
Wet Bag
Wet bags are waterproof bags used to store cloth diapers when you are on the go. Wet bags generally close with a zipper or drawstring. Some choose to use large wet bags in lieu of a pail liner.
Diaper Sprayer
Diaper sprayers make messy clean ups with cloth diapers easier! Simply attach the sprayer to your toilet to spray off soiled diapers prior to putting them in your pail. No need to dunk and swish!
